In the 17th century, the land on Quai Voltaire belonged to Cardinal Mazarin, who donated it to the religious order of the Theatines. They built a convent there and its church, “Saint Anne la Royale,” in homage to Anne of Austria. This church was opened for worship in 1669.<\/p>

During the French Revolution of 1789, the church was deconsecrated and used as a granary. It was then converted into a performance hall before becoming the “Caf\u00e9 des Muses” in 1815. The church was demolished in 1822, but the houses along the quayside remained.<\/p>

In 1851, the fa\u00e7ade of the hotel was renovated and the building was raised by two stories. The hotel was then named “H\u00f4tel Voltaire.” It belonged to the Lambert family until the early 20th century, then changed hands and took the name “H\u00f4tel du Quai Voltaire.”<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

In 2017, the Berrut family acquired the H\u00f4tel du Quai Voltaire. The Berruts, Franco-Swiss hoteliers for four generations, also own the H\u00f4tel Bedford and the H\u00f4tel de l’Arcade, in the Madeleine district of Paris.<\/p>

After a thorough and meticulous restoration, the H\u00f4tel du Quai Voltaire opened its doors in 2025. The Caf\u00e9 des Muses, with its splendid decor, is a tribute to Sylvain Berrut, founder of the family hotel line.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Charles Baudelaire completed “Les Fleurs du Mal” from 1856 to 1858 in room 51; Richard Wagner wrote the libretto for his opera “The Mastersinger” in 1861; Oscar Wilde, Camille Pissarro, Rainer Maria Rilke, Jean Sibelius, Ernest Hemingway, Pierre Reverdy, Antoine Blondin, Marcel Aym\u00e9, and Louis Malle have all stayed here.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
